“Generosity” is the theme of this year’s stewardship campaign
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. Indeed, God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.”
John 3: 16-17
In Christ Jesus, God gave everything!
Attached are scriptural readings for each day this week. Please read them alone and/or with others. What do these texts say to you about your faith and
generosity? Along with your financial support how do you respond on a daily basis to God’s gifts to you?
How generous are you?
Pray and ask God to help you be more generous, if financially feasible. Use this prayer or one of your own:
Gracious, life-giving God, in Jesus you have given us everything. Inspire me to respond with faithful generosity in how I live and how I give. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
MONDAY, OCTOBER 19 2 Corinthians 9:6-8
“ The point is this: the one who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and the one who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each of you must give as you have made up your mind, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to provide you with every blessing in abundance, so that by always having enough of everything, you may share abundantly in every good work.” Tuesday, October 20 1 John 3:17-18 “How does God’s love abide in anyone who has the world’s goods and sees a brother or sister in need and yet refuses help? Little children, let us love, not in word or speech, but in truth and action.” Wednesday, October 21 Ecclesiastes 5:10 “Whoever loves money will never have enough money; whoever loves wealth will not be satisfied with it. This also is vanity.
Thursday, October 22 Matthew 6:19-21
“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust consume and where thieves break in and steal; but store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consumes and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
Friday, October 23 1 Timothy 6:17-19
“As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy. They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, thus storing up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life.”
Saturday, October 24 2 Corinthians 8: 1-5
“We want you to know, brothers, about the grace of God that has been given among the churches of Macedonia,
for in a severe test of affliction, their abundance of joy and their extreme poverty have overflowed in a wealth of generosity on their part. For they gave according to their means, as I can testify, and beyond their means, of their own accord……and this, not as we expected, but they gave themselves first to the Lord and then by the will of God to us.”
Reformation Sunday, October 25 Romans 3:21-24
“But now, apart from law, the righteousness of God has been disclosed, and is attested by the law and the prophets, the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction, since all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God; they are now justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus…”
